COVID-19 Safety Plan

The following safety plan ensures that all measurements have been taken to minimize the risk of viral exposure in the clinic setting. It is in compliance with the College of Massage Therapists of BC's interim guidelines, which adheres to principles from BC Centre for Disease Control, BC Provincial Health Office, and WorkSafeBC.

Treatment protocols

Only one client will be allowed in the clinic space at a time. Temperature will be taken at the door. Prior to treatment, the therapist will ask the client to confirm that they have no COVID-19 signs, symptoms, or interactions with potential carriers. As of May 2022, clients may choose whether or not to wear a mask (the therapist will comply with their preference).

Informed consent

While all measures are being taken to minimize transmission of COVID-19, the nature of massage therapy means that physical distancing is not possible during treatment. Risk cannot be reduced to 0%; the client must consent to accepting these risks prior to proceeding with treatment.

Hand hygiene

Clients will be asked to sanitize their hands upon arrival and before departure. The hand sanitizer used is from Rocky Mountain Soap Company and is on Health Canada’s list of approved hand sanitizers. The therapist will wash their hands in compliance with BCCDC’s hand washing protocol prior to each stage of treatment - assessment, treatment, and homecare. Soap is also provided in the bathroom for clients if preferred. Unscented products are available for those with hypersensitivities.

Face touching

If the therapist or client needs to adjust their mask / itch their face, they will resanitize prior to touching the individual or another object.

Cleaning + sanitization

The clinic space will be thoroughly cleaned between each appointment with a Health Canada approved disinfectant (currently using Dr. Thym). This includes a wipe down of the massage table, pillows, bolsters, chairs, levers, countertops, and door handles. If a heating pad or other prop is required, it will be covered with a pillow case. All linens - including blankets + pillow coverings - will be laundered after single use. It is recommended that clients try to plan ahead and only use the bathroom when urgent. Bathroom facilities will be cleaned daily - both the faucet and soap dispenser are automatic to minimize contact.

Payment

All payments will be handled electronically to minimize contact - eTransfer or direct billing preferred. Receipts will be emailed to the client.

Fresh air

The HVAC system will continuously circulate air through the clinic space, in compliance with WorkSafeBC recommendations.

Communication

This safety plan will remain accessible online to all clients. It will adapt as needed to meet all provincial requirements in minimizing risk and ensuring public safety.
